A striking and highly decorative early Mora clock with rare surviving paint and a distinctive heart-shaped door by Anders Pohlhammar, Stjernsunds Manufacturing, in the landscape of Dalarna. Circa 1750. The pine case retains wonderfully worn, largely original painted decoration: soft ochres and greys with faux-bois graining on the plinth, scrolling foliate motifs, and a heart-shaped glazed door to reveal the pendulum. The hood features an arched cornice, carved and painted surround, and a brass dial with silvered chapter ring and Roman numerals framed by repoussé spandrels and a signed roundel above. The surface shows exactly the layered patina, age cracks and minor losses collectors seek, giving the clock tremendous character without compromising its presence. Perfect as a focal point in a hallway, living room, or dining room, this Mora clock brings scale, color, and authentic 18th-century Scandinavian atmosphere to any interior. The clock is in working condition, but will need adjustment by a professional after shipping.
