This charming dome-top wooden box, dating to the 19th century, is a fine example of early American painted folk storage. The box features a hand-painted faux-grain surface in warm ochre and russet tones, designed to imitate more expensive woods, with a domed lift-top lid and original painted decoration. Its surface shows a desirable patina from age and use, enhancing its decorative character.
The box opens to a clean interior with traces of early hand-scribbled writing on the underside of the lid, adding a personal touch and sense of history. Compact in form yet full of visual interest, this piece would have originally served as a document or valuables box and today makes a striking decorative accent for a tabletop, shelf, or collector’s display.
Condition: Expected wear and surface craquelure consistent with age; stable and decorative with authentic painted finish.
